The film starts through the 1950's in a unspecified year. It's then the narrator canine stops and starts an extremely short life as a wild pup who immediately put to death and is whisked away to the dog pound. As a youthful dog that was thriving, Bailey is seen in the locked pick-up truck on a hot summer day and is saved from certain death with a young lad named Ethan and his mom. But events take a dark turn when the alcoholic dad of Ethan shoves his mom to the ground in a drunken fury. Ethan orders his dad to leave and not return.
